Who I am

This website, aljennings.co.uk, is operated by Al Jennings, an independent writer based in the United Kingdom. I am responsible for personal information I handle in connection with enquiries about my writing and services.

Information I receive

If you email me, I may receive your name, email address, organisation and any information you choose to include in your message. If we work together, I may also process information needed for commissioning, contracts, invoicing and payment records.

The website does not currently offer a contact form or an on-site newsletter signup.

Like most websites, technical information such as IP addresses, browser details and requests to the site may be processed by the hosting provider to deliver and protect the website.

How and why I use it

I use enquiry details to respond to you, discuss possible commissions and manage professional relationships. This is generally necessary for my legitimate interests in running my writing business, or to take steps towards a contract at your request.

If we work together, I use relevant details to perform our agreement and meet legal obligations, such as maintaining appropriate financial records. I do not sell your personal information.

Who may receive it

Relevant information may be handled by service providers that support the website, email, business administration or accounting, including Netlify as the website host and my email provider. Information may also be shared where legally required or reasonably necessary to fulfil an agreed commission.

Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for international transfers, appropriate arrangements must apply.

How long I keep it

I keep correspondence only for as long as reasonably needed to respond to enquiries, maintain professional relationships or deal with any related issues. Records connected to paid work may need to be retained longer to meet tax, accounting or other legal requirements. Information that is no longer needed will be deleted or securely disposed of.

Cookies and external websites

The pages in this website package do not include advertising trackers or an analytics script, and I do not currently set optional tracking cookies through the site itself. Essential technical processing may take place as part of website hosting.

Articles and social links lead to third-party services, including Substack, Instagram and X. Those websites have their own privacy and cookie policies, which apply when you visit them.

If analytics, embedded content or other cookie-based features are added later, I will review this notice and any consent requirements.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict or object to its use, and receive certain information in a portable form. Where processing depends on consent, you can withdraw that consent. You can ask about any of these rights by emailing me.

Your right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests in circumstances provided for by data protection law.
